Paddle Along on Golden Lake
The Iron County Watershed Coalition’s annual float on local lakes and streams will take place on Saturday, August 1st at Golden Lake, one mile off US 2 along Highway 16, 13 miles west of Iron River. Join others and launch your canoe or kayak at the park boat launch at 11:00 AM CST.
After paddling on the lake, participants are invited to share in a potluck at the park as Bette and Dean Premo entertain with music. For all who are interested, Mike Golas of Trout Unlimited will give a tour of the nearby historic Cooks Run cabin and trout rearing ponds after the potluck. Bring a potluck contribution, a camp or lawn chair, your own beverages, and sun and insect protection.
Golden Lake is a cold, clear body of water. High winds in August 2020 took down mature hemlock and balsam trees, leaving many large logs along the shoreline, creating fish habitat. The park is fully accessible, quiet, and a pleasant place to swim, paddle and camp while summer and fall days afford the opportunity. Bring a water supply, but clean camp toilets are available.
This event will cancelled in the event of rain.
Finishing time should be some time between 1-2 PM.
